What is Zeaxanthin?
Almost identical to Lutein, Zeaxanthin (zee-ah-ZAN-thin) is also a yellow compound or carotenoid, produced by plants to absorb light and can only be consumed by animals eating plants. It is the chemical responsible for the vivid yellow colour of saffron and yellow peppers.
Zeaxanthin gathers in high concentrations within the retina and is a significant part of the macular pigment, which is thought to protect the delicate light sensitive cells in macula against oxidative stress and visible blue light.

The yolks of eggs also contain significant concentrations of Zeaxanthin along with Lutein.
